April 25th 2017 Beer Release

Haven is a German wheat beer primarily showcasing yeast driven flavors and aromas, known predominately for its banana and clove characteristics. A medium bodied, full flavored and easy drinking wheat for the hot days of summer.

Dead Blow is a Tropical version of the Foreign Extra Stout. Eighty pounds of macerated dates made its way into this brew, partnered with a Dry English Ale yeast to provide a vibrant fruity/tropical aroma with a slight amount of fruity esters. The Dry English ale yeast helps this beer attenuate lower, however leaving a residual sweetness on the finish as well as increase the fruity characteristic received from the Dates. Dead Blow is a dry, roasty, fruity, full bodied, smooth stout, that is lighter on bitterness.

Just one sip of this Red Hopped Mama conjures up the history lesson we all learned as kids. Everyone knows the story of Captain Shaddock sailing from East India with pummel seeds in tow on his way to the Caribbean to change the face of fruit forever, but Shaddock could have never imagined that his Barbados forbidden fruit would find its way into the beer glass in front of you. From East India to the West Indies, from Texas to Comstock Park, the short legacy of this 300 year old little fruit that could, continues with you ordering up a cold one.

We just want to have fun making great beers, and Blah Blah Blah IPA sure seemed like a good way to do it. Blah Blah Blah IPA is a maltier, amber-colored take of the traditional IPA. We incorporated some interesting malts including imported Baird Caramel 80, a darker, sweet crystal malt; Belgian biscuit malt to give it a toasty flavor; and German dark Munich malt for body and color. We also hopped this ale a bit differently than we normally do with most of the hops being added at different times very late in the boil for a full hop “jammy” flavor and bright aroma. We then dry-hopped it very agressively using five different hops including a newer experimental varietal to pack in flavors and aromas of pine, citrus, grapefruit and jam. Blah blah blah, just try it. YEAST: American Ale MALTS: 2-row base Malt, Baird 70-80 Dark Crystal, Weyermann Munich 2, Weyermann Carafa III, Castle Biscuit HOPS: Warrior, Centennial, Ahtanum, Amarillo, Mosaic, Citra, Chinook, Simcoe, Equinox

There’s magic in that moment. As the thoroughbreds stride from the paddock to the post parade, the crowd rises, the state is still, and everyone sings together “My Old Kentucky Home.” It’s not the only tradition on the first Saturday of May. There’s the roses, the most exciting two minutes in sports, and the Mint Juleps. Man, are there Mint Juleps. It’s with that spirit of togetherness and tradition, we’re proud to call the Commonwealth our Kentucky Home. And for you, we’ve brewed this batch in honor of this event on the first Saturday of May.

A trio of hops come together in this crisp session IPA. Brewed with Meyer lemon, Hop Slice balances floral hop notes and a subtle citrus kick. Malt: Pale, Honey malt, C 60, Munich. Hops: Galaxy, Azacca, Amarillo.

This is a collaboration with Asbury Provisions, a Gastropub located in Denver near DU. We brewed this beer with fenugreek to give it that rich maple flavor and added biscuit malt to the grain to promote a pancake-like flavor. This american style porter is like a pancake in a glass

Image result for smuttynose blackberry weiss

Blackberry Short Weisse is the fourth entry in Smuttynose’s canned Short Weisse series (and the first of the Wild Card entries) in March, 2017. The clean, tart acidity of our lactic fermentation process contributes massive refreshment to beer drinkers. Aging the beer on blackberries adds a delicious flavor nuance that’s pure berry deliciousness. The lightweight can package means you can take this fruity refreshment anywhere or just keep a few on hand for spring yard work. Smuttynose Short Weisse beers are made with a time consuming two-part fermentation process that happens in both the brewhouse and the fermenter. The first stage takes place in the kettle with a dose of our house lactobacillus, a bacteria that’s a key component in making yogurt and sour cream. The second phase takes place in the fermenter with a German-style hefeweizen yeast. This time consuming process means we can only make limited amounts of Short Weisse beers. Fortune favors the bold – get yours soon!

Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Son of a Baptist is an 8% ABV imperial stout. It is not barrel aged like its father, Big Bad Baptist; instead its flavor profile was designed to highlight the complex and often unique flavors of small batch coffees. Instead of sourcing a coffee that would play well in a beer we sought out creative and innovative roasters, then asked them which beans they’re passionate about. Each resulting release of Son of a Baptist is widely different depending on the coffee selected. Some are fruity and sweet with notes of jam and chocolate, others are rich and earthy with a big roasted finish. Each limited release will return to the Roaster’s home market where the beer and the coffee can be sampled side by side.

Image result for dark horse sapient trip ale

Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as “Death” was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway…we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

Image result for tank 7 boulevard

Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard it’s fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

Super Pils is a classic pilsner character in a big, bold beer that drinks like an IPA. Euro-pils character, but bolder. Cool-fermented with our house ale yeast for a clean, smooth flavor with just the barest hint of fruitines. Perfect balance of malt and hops in classic pils fashion—just stronger. Unfiltered for better body and foam.

New Beer Releases 3/15/2017

Blackberry Daze IPA gets its hop bitterness and some hop aroma in the brewhouse, but most of the action happens in the cellar when the fruit is added during secondary fermentation. A special blend of loamy, herbaceous hops for dry-hopping complements the brightness and deep complexity of the blackberries. The result is a funky synthesis of rich earth and ripe fruit, hop bitterness and blackberry tartness, with alluring color and aromas up front, sublimely intense flavors, and a refreshingly dry finish.

Named after the city where it all began, Kalamazoo Stout is one of our most classic recipes. This smooth, full-bodied stout offers a blend of aromas and flavors of dark chocolate and freshly roasted coffee, balanced with a significant hop presence.

This IPA is extra dank and resinous. Enjoy its piney aromas and tropical notes from a blend of Citra and Mosaic hops.

This dark and roasty porter is balanced perfectly with notes of maple in both aroma and flavor. It satisfies that maple craving without being sweet. This beer is a great fall alternative to the pumpkin beers.

Loaded with rye and oh so righteous. As the flagship beer of Renegade, [Redacted] has a loyal following. Citrusy hops and spicy rye make for a delicious combo.

Craving something with bold hops and high ABV? Endpoint (E3) is your beer. Single hopped with tons of summit hops, this beer is a great example of how complex a single-hopped beer can be. Summit hops are extremely diverse containing flavors of grapefruit, pine, and sweet onion. Our brewers are careful to add the hops at specific times in the boil to bring out each unique flavor. What started as a challenge to make a “hop bomb” has turned into a hop-lover’s dream.

According to legend, come dusk, you could see it in their eyes. Recipes formulating. Plans devising.
Alibis orchestrating. In the early 1800s, a secret society of brewmasters, possessed by perfection, took nightly to the Miami Canal, a newly carved waterway between Cincinnati and Dayton. And conspired in the surreptitious exchange of rare and exotic hops. Witnesses? Just one. The moon. Hop Smuggler White IPA. Citrusy, fruity, satisfyingly bitter. Made with a special blend of hops called never you mind.

O Gude Ale Comes, and Gude Ale goes… This Scotch Ale is sweet, but not cloying. It’s strong, but not brash. It’s smooth and smokey, like a good dram among friends. Cheers!

Café Racer 15™ features aromas of bright citrus and resinous pine from the generous use of Citra, Amarillo, Cascade and Chinook hops which are complimented by a dry malt finish. The result is a high revving Double IPA that is loud and assertive, much like the rebellious street racers who inspired it. Never ride alone

New Beer Release 3/8/2017

Nitro Dry Irish Stout is a traditional Irish beer that offers a drinking experience only nitrogen can create by lending a remarkably smooth, balanced flavor and a velvety head. Made with roasted barley and Irish Stout Malt, this black beer has subtle flavors of coffee and hints of grain. Well-balanced hops in harmony with the roasted malts give it a particularly dry finish.

Blood Orange Brew Free! is brewed like our original west coast style Brew Free! or Die IPA, but with an abundance of fresh blood orange puree and a twist of citrusy dry hops. Refreshingly different. As Abe would say, “Whatever you are, be a good one.”

Abita Strawberry Harvest is a lager brewed with pilsner and wheat malts and Vanguard hops. Real Louisiana strawberry juice is added after filtration resulting in a crisp lager with a sweet strawberry flavor, aroma and haze.

After over a year of prototyping R&D batches of Nu Skool IPA, this final version is one special beer. It’s an approachable, well-balanced IPA with slight malty sweetness that’s brimming with tropical, fruity, spicy, piney & citrus character. To contrast our IPA (brewed since 2002), which most closely resembles a traditional English IPA in malt & hop bills, we wanted to brew an IPA in a new way. Like craft brewers, hop farmers have come a long way. This beer showcases just how far we’ve come with alluring aromas & explosive flavors using only new American & experimental hops. There’s no need to add anything else. It’s time to graduate to the next level of hop flavors with Nu Skool IPA.

Our GABF medal-winning robust Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter, infused with whole bean espresso to add new depth and complexity to our Sweet Baby. Pop the top, take a sip, and you’ll wonder … Where has this “bean” all my life?

Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed. With 6 pounds of hops per barrel, Palate Wrecker is officially the hoppiest beer in the ring. Our Double IPA is the result of a complex and innovative double-brewing process that is exclusively ours. First, there is a single infusion mash and subsequent boil at 65 IBU with Columbus and Centennial hops. Then, a second duplicate mash using the 65 IBU wort instead of water and a second 65 IBU boil using the same hop schedule. The result is a higher gravity beer with kettle caramelizing in place of crystal malts and an elevated hop flavor and bitterness that might not be achieved with

The soft citrus of orange blossom adds a bright accent to the slightly sweet honey malt notes in this Helles lager, leading to a round, smooth finish.

Notes of white pepper, banana, peach & apricot fuel this primordial beast of a Belgian-Styled Dark Ale.

Bushels of juicy apricots and bright bursts of barrel-aged tartness are seamlessly infused to cultivate this deliciously distinctive and succulent sour ale.

A high-gravity Russian Imperial Stout brewed from a blend of dark malts and Jolokai peppers (Ghost Chili Peppers).

Way smooth and silky with a nice wheatly-esque-ishness. A truly unique style featuring a strong hop finish on a silky body. A hoppy pale wheat ale that is great for IPA fans but so smooth that the hefeweizen fans dig it too.

This ain’t no just-add-juice approach. This one is for adults. We use bountiful whole tangerine purée, which brings pithy, crisp bitterness to the citrus flavor. In addition to the complexities of the tangerine — the likes of which you can only get by using the whole fruit — we judiciously employ just a hint of whole pineapple for a backnote (you’d likely not even pick it out of the mix if we didn’t tell you it was there). We’re not looking for a sweet concoction to appease the “I want my beer to taste like fruit juice” crowd. This is Stone. We like our IPAs to taste like IPAs. Big, bold and not for kids
